"Last Days" (page 131, "The Pulse of Mixed Media")

The piece of artwork I created that made it into The Pulse of Mixed Media, is a piece called Last Days.  It was created in response to Seth Apter's question: "What is your biggest fear?"  My explanation of this piece in the book reads as follows: "Last Days represents my version of the 'fear of the unknown.'  This Last Days (as in End Times) is not necessarily the version as depicted in the Book of Revelation, but simply the idea that life is, at best, quite uncertain!  What little control we appear to have over our own, individual destiny is of fairly small account, and completely overshadowed by the fact that any of us can have our life irrevocably altered in an instant, by the unexpected, the unforseen, or the unimaginable!"  I feel both proud, and honored, that a piece of my artwork was selected to be a part of this amazing, and wonderful, book!  (My mixed media piece, Last Days is on page 131, and my answers to three of Seth's questions are on pages 109, 122, and 132, in the book.)

  1. Robert, it's a great piece! I love the images and the lines you've added to enhance the images. Nice texture, nice color.

The best part is that it doesn't make me feel at all gloomy as part of the "last days".....let's all enjoy ourselves to the end , with beautiful things.

  2. Thank you, Karen, for your kind comments! They are really appreciated. I submitted three pieces for "The Pulse of Mixed Media," and this piece, based on the prompt "What is your biggest fear?", is the one that Seth selected. . . .And, yes, my imagining of a 'last days' scenario is quite colorful; perhaps a rather odd vision of end times! It was a bit of a break, for me, as much of my work tends to use subtler earth tones, or be somewhat monochromatic. Isn't Seth's book amazing!

    1. As you know, I was so pleased when I found out that a piece of my artwork, and some of my words were going be included in your book. Seeing the realization of your vision for the book, in it's final form, when I first held it in my hands, was far beyond my expectations! Being able to be a part of this has truly been a dream come true. My thanks, to you, for the opportunity!

    1. Yes, the 'Robert' in the book was the same one making all of those rather long-winded comments during Seth's
31/31 blog posts. I so enjoyed looking at all of the art from the spotlight artists, visiting their blogs/websites, and hearing their stories, and it would have been impossible for me to just leave a "nice artwork" sort of comment. Thanks, so much, Darlene, for your kind words!
