"With An Eye On the Sky"

This is a relatively new piece created with images from various sources: an old book of Russian posters, a print of an old religious engraving, a small color wheel from an old book on advertising art, a flower from a vintage scientific print, some billboard material (clouds), and an airplane from a U.S. postage stamp.  The paint is Golden acrylics.

"Last Days"

This is a full view of the piece Last Days, which I created for Seth Apter's recently published book, The Pulse of Mixed Media (pg. 131).  It was created in response to the author's prompt: "What is your biggest fear?"

"Last Days" (page 131, "The Pulse of Mixed Media")

The piece of artwork I created that made it into The Pulse of Mixed Media, is a piece called Last Days.  It was created in response to Seth Apter's question: "What is your biggest fear?"  My explanation of this piece in the book reads as follows: "Last Days represents my version of the 'fear of the unknown.'  This Last Days (as in End Times) is not necessarily the version as depicted in the Book of Revelation, but simply the idea that life is, at best, quite uncertain!  What little control we appear to have over our own, individual destiny is of fairly small account, and completely overshadowed by the fact that any of us can have our life irrevocably altered in an instant, by the unexpected, the unforseen, or the unimaginable!"  I feel both proud, and honored, that a piece of my artwork was selected to be a part of this amazing, and wonderful, book!  (My mixed media piece, Last Days is on page 131, and my answers to three of Seth's questions are on pages 109, 122, and 132, in the book.)

The Pulse of Mixed Media

The Pulse of Mixed Media has arrived!  Seth Apter's compendium of 133 artists: their artwork, and their answers to his questions about their work, and about being an artist, is a work of art in itself!  My copy arrived from Amazon, yesterday (3/14/12), and I've found such inspiration in the artwork, and artist's comments, that I've found it almost impossible to put down.  If you haven't seen his recent posts on The Altered Page, as yet (thealteredpage.blogspot.com), go there now!  Seth is introducing one of the "Spotlight" artists, each day, for the month of March (31 Artists/31Days), and, just being made aware of these artists, and visiting their blogs and websites, certainly stirs the creative juices!  It's just so good to know that there are so many of us out there!
